What is Dementia Friends?

“Dementia Friends” is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

Dementia Friendly Keighley have local Dementia Champions who deliver this hour long session. They provide sessions in the community and are happy to deliver to ready-made groups of friends, colleagues or community groups.

We also run regular information sessions in the DFK office based in the Airedale Shopping Centre. Dates are advertised on the website and our Facebook page and you can book directly through either

Dementia Friends Target

Dementia Friendly Keighley have a target to reach 5000 Keighley dementia friends by the year 2020.

If you would like to become a dementia friend and support this target, whether its just you, a group of colleagues or a community group, get in touch as we can deliver the hour session free of charge with our Dementia Champions.

Dementia Friends Programme

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

Dementia Champions

Dementia Champions are trained volunteers who deliver Dementia Friends sessions and encourage others to learn a little bit about dementia. Champions run Information Sessions wherever needed in their community and inspire others to help those living with dementia to live well.
