Respite & reminiscence

Every Thursday!

A little Respite and Reminiscence is a session for carers of people with dementia, whereby their loved ones can spend time with us for an hour or two whilst their carer does a bit of shopping or enjoys a quiet coffee.

Dementia Friendly Keighley offers a friendly and professional service free of charge in the office in The Airedale Shopping Centre. We have two sessions on a Thursday, 10am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-4pm

The sessions provide a variety of stimulating and enjoyable activities so that people with dementia can enjoy social time with us and with each other whilst their main carer enjoys a well-deserved break. Refreshments are served on arrival and half way through the session.

Sessions run for up to 2.5 hours and include:

  • Reminiscence
  • Simple quizzes, games & jigsaws
  • Arts & crafts
  • Singing & music
  • Gentle seated exercise
  • Classic films/comedy on DVD

Carers must be contactable on a mobile phone and for carers who have dropped off their love one, must remain within 20 minutes of the DFK office during the session.

This is a free service but donations are welcome

The services provided by Dementia Friendly Keighley have benefitted our family massively as it allows mum the space we need to be able to spend quality time together without mum worrying about grandma and her care. The Drop In staff and volunteers do a great job of settling their visitors and making them feel comfortable which is hard to find when people with memory problems are so easily confused and worried. My grandma has made friends here and found a safe space she enjoys away from the family
