Springbank Care Home, based in Silsden have recently completed their Dementia Friendly Keighley Recognition Award. This shows that they have completed a number of steps to not only ensure their organisation is dementia friendly, but also a number of their members of staff. The care home now has members of staff who are Dementia Champions and will be delivering dementia friends sessions to their staff members, residents families and local businesses to create a dementia friendly community.

The family owned care home, which was built in the 18th century, currently has 40 bedrooms with 10 specifically for those with dementia, and has recently opened a second community for residents living with dementia, expanding this  by another 13 beds.

The care home also has a dedicated area for those living with dementia, their families and also the local community. Once COVID restrictions have eased, this area will then be used by Dementia Friendly Keighley  to host events as well as provide information and signposting for those that need it in the local community.

Registered Manager at Springbank Care Home Alex Lambert said “We are honoured to partner with Dementia Friendly Keighley, they have already provided invaluable support and information  to help us provide the very best care we can for our residents. We look forward to welcoming Dementia Friendly Keighley into our Home when restrictions allow, so they can provide vital support for families in the local community.”

Hannah Lindsey DFK Projects Advisor, On behalf of Dementia Friendly Keighley said “We would like to thank Springbank Care Home for their very detailed action plan and look forward to working with the care home to put the actions in place.” She continues “The care home has given much consideration to their residents, staff and the care home, also prioritising their work in supporting their local community.”

Director Steven Spellman said “We’ve operated care homes in the local area for over 30 years and we are passionate about providing high quality care, Dementia Friendly Keighley help support us to do this. With the investment in our new dementia community at Springbank, Primrose, we are continually improving the care we provide. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our home once we are able to open the doors again.”

Dementia Friendly Keighley are asking organisations, businesses and community projects across Keighley to join us and pledge to become more dementia friendly, so that people with dementia, their carers and families can have better access to services and support and be more fully integrated in their communities. Many organisations have employees, customers or participants affected by dementia and many others provide services used by people with dementia. We believe that by engaging with and supporting more organisations to take up the challenge and sign up to this initiative we will be able to make Keighley a more dementia friendly place to live and work.
