Dementia Friends Sessions

Dementia Friendly Keighley run FREE monthly open sessions where you, your staff and/or volunteers can attend an hour’s awareness session and become ‘DEMENTIA FRIENDS’ – and get the badge, to wear with pride, as well as an email signature to use in correspondences (if required).

Our team has been approved by the Alzheimer’s Society to run these sessions on their behalf, helping to make Keighey a more Dementia Friendly Community.
To book on one of the sessions, either click the blue ‘BOOK A PLACE’ button or simply, click here. choose a date and we’ll get back to you. They run from our town centre Information and Support Centre and start at 4pm until 5pm.

If you have a large number of people and would like us to run a session in your premises, please get in touch.

Alzheimer’s Society Learning Hub

Alzheimer’s Learning Hub

For someone new to dementia, their free 30 minute course on an ‘Introduction to the dementia journey’ is a good start. Learn about dementia, the stages of the dementia journey and explore how Alzheimer’s Society’s Learning Hub can equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently support people with dementia throughout their journey.

Other courses are available to purchase – at approximately £24 per course each lasting an average of 45 – 60 minutes. There are currently another 14 courses available.

Usually a few hours over a number of weeks (in your own time) Learn more about types of dementia, hear real-life stories, and explore how we can best care for those affected, in these online dementia courses.

Futurelearn offers a diverse selection of courses from leading universities and cultural institutions from around the world. Depending on what you need, many courses are free (you may have to pay if you want a certificate or access over a longer period).

Note courses change and new courses are being added all the time, just search for what you need.

Bradford University Centre for Applied Dementia Studies

On our doorstep we are pleased to have Bradford Universities ‘Centre for Applied Dementia Studies’ Bradford University are world leading centre for workforce development for dementia care.

The Centre is making a substantial on-going contribution to dementia research, education, and training and has a world renowned reputation for delivering outstanding, evidence based dementia training.

If you are looking for something more substantial – check out their courses. Lots to choose from with short courses of around 1 day, up to a full Master’s, 3 years MSc Advanced Dementia Studies.
