Dementia Friendly Keighley is a voluntary organisation and is supported by invaluable volunteers. We are currently looking for more volunteers, to enable us to provide and expand our range of much needed services, to people living with dementia, as well as their carers.

Our volunteers provide a range of support in the local area and give up their time from a few hours a month to a few hours a week or at a one-off event. Could you spare some time to help?

Volunteer Roles

Dementia Friendly Keighley have a range of roles in the local area from supporting a one-off event to supporting a weekly activity. The tasks we have may change from time to time and new roles develop, so please contact us to discuss the options available at the time of your enquiry.

To support the Dementia Friendly Keighley projects you do not need to have a full understanding of dementia or have experience of someone living with dementia.  But you may have other skills that would support the roles such as:

  • Administration and Office duties
  • Enjoyment in talking and listening to people
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing
  • Supporting the drop-in sessions
  • Assisting with creative and activity sessions

Anyone who volunteers will be invited to attend a Dementia Friends Session and may be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, formerly known as Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Time to Take Aire’ Befriending Service

We’re also looking for volunteers to be part of our ‘Time to Take Aire’ befriending service.

Befriending volunteers will help us provide company and conversation to those who are housebound or have limited mobility who might feel isolated and lonely and would benefit from mental stimulation.

Volunteers will be trained to deliver reminiscence sessions which use all the senses — sight, touch, taste, smell and sound — to help individuals with dementia remember events, people and places from their past lives and recall memories.

    How can my Workplace Volunteer?

If you have a volunteering programme within your workplace, or some of your colleagues would like to get together and support a local charitable event, please get in touch with us at Dementia Friendly Keighley. In the past we have had local workplaces support us with fundraising, marketing, decorating the office, and helping out at our events.
