Marketing and Communications Officer

Hours 14 hours per week, with days and times agreed with the successful candidate

Location Dementia Friendly Keighley Information Centre, Keighley
Holiday 25 days plus English Bank Holidays, pro rata

Key objectives of the post

  • The Marketing and Communications Officer will support Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) to raise awareness of its services, values and impact across the local community.
  • The postholder will help ensure clear, inclusive and engaging communication with people living with dementia, carers, volunteers, partners, funders and the wider public.
  • Working closely with the Service Delivery Manager and wider team, the role will contribute to promoting DFK services, activities, campaigns and volunteering opportunities. This will help the charity reach more people and strengthen its presence across Keighley and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

Marketing and communications

  • Develop and deliver engaging marketing and communications content in line with DFK’s values and Dementia Friendly principles.
  • Update promotional materials, leaflets and newsletters, ensuring they are available in the office and to all members of staff.
  • Write new publicity and advertising material, including digital content where appropriate.
  • Develop banners and posters for events where appropriate.
  • Manage and regularly update DFK’s social media platforms, creating content that promotes services, activities, events and awareness campaigns.
  • Support the promotion of events, peer-support sessions and community activities through social media, posters, newsletters and other appropriate channels.
  • Ensure all communications are inclusive, accessible and appropriate for people affected by dementia.

Monitoring, reporting and administration

  • Maintain records of marketing activity, engagement and reach to support reporting to the Board and funders.
  • Support the collection of stories, feedback and case studies that demonstrate DFK’s impact.
  • Provide general administrative support linked to communications and promotional activity.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers and trustees to ensure consistent messaging.

About you

We are looking for a creative, organised and proactive person who enjoys a varied role within a small charity and is motivated to make a positive difference for people affected by dementia in the local community.

Skills, knowledge, experience and attributesEssentialDesirable
Personal or professional understanding of dementia, or a passion for working with people living with dementia
Experience of working in the charity or community sector
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organisational and prioritising abilities
Experience in a similar role, or a role requiring similar skills, involving a varied workload and an ability to self-organise
Ability to work independently and proactively while also demonstrating strong teamwork skills
Understanding and practical experience of using a range of social media platforms and preparing press releases
Experience of engaging with local media
Basic graphic or content-creation skills and experience of platforms such as Canva
Experience of website content management
Ability to use standard IT packages such as email, Word and Excel to at least a basic level
A desire for a varied role within a small organisation where other reasonable tasks may be required to ensure the service is delivered
